GEORGE WASHINGTON AND FRIENDS
George Washington was born in the Northern Neck at Wakefield Plantation in 1732. Several generations earlier, his ancestor, John Washington, had established the family seat in the vicinity of Wakefield in 1656. The Washingtons, therefore, had already been settled in the Wakefield area for nearly 100 years. This tour focuses on Augustine and Mary Washington, George’s parents, and how they lived during George’s formative years. We also examine the life experiences of George Washington in the Northern Neck as an adult.
