The Northern Neck of Virginia is a peninsula, located between the Potomac River to the north and the Rappahannock River to the south, with the Chesapeake Bay to the east. Rather than driving down Interstate 95 from Mt. Vernon to Williamsburg, why not take a delightful colonial detour through the Northern Neck? You won't miss a thing on that giant highway with all that traffic! Here's an area map to get your bearings:

From Interstate 95, take Hwy 17 to Tappahannock. Turn onto Hwy 360 inTappahannock and cross the bridge over the Rappahannock River. Once on the other side, you are in the Northern Neck and the town of Warsaw. There are two major thoroughfares in the Neck: Hwy 360 and Highway 3. Stay on Hwy 360 and you'll go through Warsaw, Callao, Heathsville, and end up in Reedville, a wonderful Victorian town. Hwy 3 intersects Hwy 360 in Warsaw. You can drive west on Highway 3 to go into Westmoreland County where the George Washington Birthplace and Stratford Hall Plantation are located. Or, you can drive east to go through Lancaster Courthouse and Kilmarnock to Irvington where Historic Christ Church is located. Whatever direction you choose, you will be delighted!
